Other attractions include The Metro Shopping Centre, The Angel of the North, Gateshead Stadium, Northumberland Coastline including Bamburgh, Holy Island, The Farne Islands, Seahouses and other famous coastal destinations. Also, within the region are more historical areas such as Durham Cathedral, Hexham, Corbridge and Hadrian's Wall. The hotel was recently refurbished and all 99 En-suite bedrooms are tastefully furnished and decorated, offering modern facilities. 

The Old Rangoon Restaurant offers both Carvery and a la Carte menus with the Cocktail Bar serving an all day menu of light meals. The hotel also offers FREE Wireless LAN access is available throughout the Hotel.

Hotel Directions

Use the Metro Train Service
There is a Metro station inside the airport terminal, this takes about 20 minutes to Newcastle City Centre. The terminal is a 300 yard walk.

A return ticket is ideal if you need to make a return journey on the same day and is much cheaper than buying two single tickets. The price of a return ticket is reduced after 9.00am on weekdays and all day at weekends and public holidays.

They are valid at all times of the day for return journeys on the Metro and on the train between Newcastle and Sunderland. The price depends on the number of zones you travel in – view the zone map here.

How to buy one
You can buy them at any ticket machine located on all Metro stations. Simply press 1, 2, or 3 on the return panel.

Arriving at Newcastle Bus Station
At Newcastle central bus terminal, walk north up St. James' Boulevard until you come to a main junction with traffic lights.  Here, turn right onto Westmorland Road, and go straight ahead for about 10 minutes until you reach the train station.
At the station you will then need to catch a metro direct to the airport terminal, which takes about 20 minutes. The terminal is a 300 yard walk.

From the North & South by Car
From the A1 (M) follow signs for Newcastle Airport.  Join the A696, signposted Airport until you approach a roundabout. Turn right into the Airport Terminal,
turn left at the one way roundabout in the Airport grounds. The hotel is located on your left hand side, opposite the Terminal building.

From the West by Car
From the A69 join the A1 (M).  Follow signs for Newcastle Airport. Join the A696, signposted Airport until you approach a roundabout.  Turn right into the Airport Terminal, turn left at the one way roundabout in the Airport grounds.  The hotel is located on your left hand side, opposite the Terminal building.

Inside the Britannia Hotel;

The Old Rangoon Restaurant offers a warm, friendly and very relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy a wide variety of Continental and Traditional dishes including a la carte, to suit both taste and pocket. The Britannia Breakfast is a great way to start the day!
Opening hours are Breakfast 6.30am-10.am, Lunch 12pm-2pm and Dinner 6pm-9.30pm.

The Cocktail Bar has an excellent choice of light snacks available, complimented by a wide range of wines, spirits and beers. The perfect place to unwind after a hectic day. The bar serves food from 10am-11pm.

24 Hour Room Service is also available.

Starbucks: Starbucks offers the finest coffee from around the
world. Starbucks purchases and roasts high-quality whole bean
coffees and sells them along with fresh, rich-brewed, Italian style
espresso beverages, a variety of pastries and confectionary.

Echo Bar: Serving a selection of beers on draught, wines and spirits.
Echo Bar is a great place to sit and have a drink with the added
advantage of being able to see onto the runway!

Greggs: The taste of the real North East! Greggs sells a selection of
pasties, fresh sandwiches and cakes.

Ponti's: Offering a varied selection of Hot and Cold food, freshly prepared.

Cafe Espresso: Offers pizza by the slice, pastries, coffee and hot chocolate.
